I was thinking today while getting the grandparents on their way back to San Diego, working with Jeanne, and cleaning up our house...
wow... it's been one year since Cameron and I got engaged. Time really really flies! On 9/8/07, Cameron Rondo set up the most wonderful and personal proposal. Now I'm writing this not too bore you but for my own records as well.
About five years ago, Cameron and I were set up by a mutual friend (Hayley
Crickmore) on a blind group date after I had just turned 16. We met at
Rollerskateland (which is no longer there) and the rest was history.
Four Years later...
So the day that Cameron proposed, I was just coming back from doing some wedding dress shopping with my mom (obviously Cameron and I had discussed it previous to the proposal) and Cameron had asked me to save from 2 p.m. to 10p.m. for him. I honestly didn't know he was setting it up because we only went ring shopping three days before and I was leaving for school the next day! He had already bought a plane ticket to see me the first week of October at
BYU-I so I thought for sure that would be when he proposes. But just in case... I got a new outfit and got dolled up for this nice date that he was planning.
Cameron arrived at my house in a nice shirt (there's a clue) and his mom's nice car (there's another clue!) but he was
soooo calm. I thought for sure that Cameron would be
reallllly nervous if he were proposing to me that night. He didn't tell me where we were going and then we headed off.

The first stop was a
rollerskate rink (like where we met).

There was hardly anyone there so we had a blast rollerskating for an hour or so and being our goofy selves. It was our first date over again.
The second stop was George's at the Cove, a wonderful restaurant in La
Jolla that overlooks the cove. It was still sunny outside and we dinned out on the balcony. Cameron had the halibut and I had I think shrimp. We had a wonderful time talking and STILL Cameron showed no signs of being nervous. I then just thought this was a really really nice date he was taking me on before I went back up to Idaho. Over dinner, I told Cameron that I was really bummed that I didn't get to go to the beach on my last day in California. He then suggested that we went over to
WindnSea Beach (my all-time favorite beach) and hang around there for a bit. Little did I know... I only helped the plan. Cameron didn't order dessert after dinner which I thought was a little fishy and
unsual for Cameron.
So we headed to
WindnSea Beach. The sun was almost setting and Cameron suggested that we went to look at the
tide pools. I agreed and off we went. As we were walking, there were coves that were only open to the ocean and so we were kind of glancing in each one when I came across one that was so romantically decorated! It had a blanket down,
candles everywhere, chilled milk in an ice bucket, a low table with my favorite desserts from Extraordinary Desserts, Roses, the whole thing. It was beautiful. I was in awe and now I was pretty sure of what came next. We sat down and starting eating the desserts when Cameron said that he wanted to wait for a second and read something to me. He reached under the low table and pulled out his journal. He began to read me
snipits of journal entrees that he had from the time we first met, dating, and then he ended with right before his mission. The last one he read me was how much he loved me and cherished me before his mission. He closed the journal (of course I'm balling at this point) and told me that he felt that same way now and more. He took out the ring from underneath the table, got down on his knee, said some wonderful words and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes!

And Allan (Cameron's dad) came down and took some pictures for us. We sat there together so happy and watched the sun go down.
Amazing right? It couldn't have been more perfect or more personal. I couldn't have asked for anything more.
