the Neverland Clan
The best part of Halloween was seeing Krew's face light up when he and his parents became his favorite characters from his favorite movie, Peter Pan! He still reviews with us that mom is Tinker Bell and dad is Captain Hook and every once in a while he still likes a good Captain Hook/Peter Pan sword fight. He loved being Peter Pan the entire night! And Cameron was exceptional at playing the part of Captain Hook! Along our trick-or-treat route, Cameron even laid under this huge blow-up spider that some person had as a decoration in their yard and pretended to be stuck so that Peter could save him! And look... my Peter Pan even gave me kisses. :) Pretty much the night was full of pretend and lots of sweets! How awesome is my brother's Napoleon Dynamite costume? And little Merida (Mo) with Krew. Can't wait until next year.

cottonseed hills and the stemless pumpkin
To catch up on life, Krew and I went to the pumpkin patch before Halloween where we slid down cottonseed mountains (which were actually really fun), saw lots of cows and goats, picked out pumpkins and enjoyed being with our friends. And out of all the pumpkins Krew could have picked, he chose the one without a stem-- most likely because it was most ball-like. And how do you like that Cowboy that photo bombed the first picture? Pretty sweet. Until next year pumpkin patch and cowboy photo bomb.

half marathon in Santa Barbara
You would think after running a half marathon once before that it wouldn't be such a big deal but I still managed to work up some nerves the day before the big run. I knew that I would finish, I just was scared something wouldn't go right like maybe I might forget to pack socks or eat something the day before that wasn't right. It's funny how sensitive you have to be towards those things like running in clothes you've previously trained in, eating right so that your body works the way you want it to or just drinking enough water the week before. I was nervous that everything wouldn't go as planned-- scared that 10 weeks of training might turn into one big unfortunate event.
I found out I had knocked 15 minutes off my last time and was extremely happy with my time!
In the end, I realized that the race was a big deal but the amount of miles I had completed in training over the last 10 weeks was the huge fete I had managed to finish.
It felt awesome, it felt great. But I did tell Cameron two things: don't ever expect me to do a full marathon and I don't know if I'll ever get that time again on a half. :) just so we're clear.
And the rest of the day was spent eating out with my wonderful friends and shopping. I was so much fun training long distance with Kate and Natalie. And my dear friend Angela came down to see me! On the drive home I told Cameron that being in Santa Barbara with friends and my family and just having a wonderful time seriously felt like my birthday (minus running 13 miles). :)
me at mile 7
With a rough 5.5 hours of sleep under my belt due to a late arrival in Santa Barbara, I left my sleeping family in the hotel and walked to the starting line. I ate my breakfast I had planned out for the last week and even wore an extra hair tie just in case mine were to break (that would be devastating!). Really, I had gone over everything at least 3 times. It was freeeeeezing in the morning and I was ready to get my blood warmed up! I started the run, trying to keep up with my dear friend Kate. Miles 1-3 were hard, in any run they always are for me. It takes me at least 2 miles to get into my zone. Mile 4 was great and I started to get more energy and less nerves... Until bozo boy from behind me decided to clip my foot causing my body to fly forward and luckily catching myself before I crash landed onto my face. I turned back with a glare and bozo boy said sorry. Mile 5 and 6 I was feeling like super woman. Mile 7 I realized I was making great time and even sent a text to Cameron. Mile 8 was good, but mile 9 was tiring. And then, mile 10. The dreaded mile, the mile that was uphill that had my calves hurting and my mind questioning if I should walk the hill... No, never stop running, that was my goal. The last bit was me battling with my mind to keep up my pace and push hard. I seriously played Beyonce's "Countdown" 15 times because I knew if I ran on the beat it would keep me at a 6.0 on the treadmill. A mile left and there was my husband and my little boy waving to me and cheering me on! Krew had the biggest smile on his face and yelled, "Go mommy!!"! The last stretch seemed like forever and how grateful I was to see that finish line!I found out I had knocked 15 minutes off my last time and was extremely happy with my time!

a belated halloween!
A belated happy halloween!! This year we were the Neverland clan: Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, and Captian Hook! (I promise I'll get a clearer photo up here once I get my internet up and working) We had a fabulous night full of trick-or-treating, a fun halloween party, eating white chili, a little bit of Hocus Pocus (the movie I was terrified of when I was younger) and lots of treats! It was so much fun to watch Krew and his cousins. And Cameron and I have had plenty of Krew's candy stash! nomnom... :) Such a fun halloween night!

i'm here!
Hello friends! I'm here! And without the internet. Boo. The last week was so full with disneyland trips, beach time, making halloween costumes, and halloween festivities... so being without internet probably came at a good time. And the weather has felt like summer! I really don't mind the 80 degree weather at all! Sweater season will come soon enough. I can't wait to post our halloween fun! Anyone else dressing up this halloween?
p.s. I'm looking forward to take my "mom tax" from Krew's halloween treats. :)

just a click away from complete embarrassment
As I pulled up into the parking lot of where I would start my run, I swiped open my phone to see where Krew had left off from playing with it earlier. I had let Krew play with my phone while I was in a hurry to get ready to meet my mom for a run. Krew knows how to operate my phone quite a bit but I also do try to regulate the time he spends on it. Well, later when I opened up to see what Krew was playing with I giggled because I realized he had been in the last stage before "publish" on my instagram. How funny if he posted a little photo he took! Wouldn't that be cute! ... how cute... and then I looked closer... and I realized it was me... my naked back side!!... changing before I went running! I hurried and pushed "back" about 10 times as my heart was racing. The photo went back to "filters" which made it easier and larger to see and it was a clear picture of me and my bare bum!!!! AHHH! I pushed the "X" and of course "Yes, I am SURE I do NOT want to publish this photo" and off it disappeared. I checked my profile 10 times more to make sure that he hadn't posted another one and luckily he hadn't. The thought of him posting a photo of me half naked on my profile was awful! I would have had no idea! Only one little "publish" click and it would have been done. Please tell me you would have been my friend and text/called me to ask what an earth I was doing!!
Since then not only am I continuing to regulate his playtime on my phone, he is also not allowed to use it while mommy is indecent. :) Boy, that could have been bad.

boss man
I have a bossy little man ordering me around the house this morning. Good thing he's taking a nap right now so I can have a happier little man later. The house is (mostly) clean, no running scheduled for today (hooooray!), and the weather is nice... what are we going to do with our Friday?! Well, the possibilities were endless until I realized my wallet is across town. So I guess we'll be going to get that and maybe a visit to the park. Happy friday!

and where's the burger?
I once had a pinterest board that was named "looks good but I'll probably never make it" for recipes that made me hungry. Then after a while I decided to change it because I changed my ways and tried a few. I have nothing against recipes, I'm just more of a figure-out-what-to-make-30-minutes-before-dinner kind of woman. This week I decided to switch it up a bit and plan ahead for a few meals. I'm trying out these zucchini's with tomato + basil + cheese, this chickpea + tomato salad, and last night I made these delicious asiago portobello burgers pictured above (not my photo though). When I told Cameron that we were having portobello mushroom burgers he asked, "And where's the burger?" But once he tried it he was pleasantly surprised. I'm already excited to have these again soon.
Have you made tried anything yummy lately? Please share!
And last week I make this baked chicken with onions, potatoes, garlic, and thyme that was delicious! But isn't everything good from Martha??

to the ball game!
I have been waiting to go to the baseball game all summer long and since summer (weather) is still here and my parents gave Krew an adorable baseball-themed present for his birthday, it was time to go! Last weekend of the season, folks! We stalked up on candy and treats, Krew was so excited for something he had never actually been to, and Cameron was ready to watch a good game! And I... well I don't really stick to the game but I love going! It's the atmosphere, right?! It's exciting and sure I'll watch a bit of the innings but I'm here for the full experience! Little Krew clapped for every good play even if it was for the other team. :) It was such a fun little family date.
And Krew loved that we took the trolley there and back!
This is one happy little fan! Go Padres!
